I have lost everything except for my desire to travel. If I go anywhere, I now have to factor in a 2-week quarantine. Many attractions, such as food, activities, living arrangements, and locations, will be closed or severely restricted. The airplanes are full, the flights are few, the airports are very limited on nourishment. You better bring LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-56576357091912548102015-08-30T18:45:00.000+01:002018-06-30T23:47:48.180+01:00Standby Continues.....Here are your primary and yet necessary rules for surviving STANDBY travel:
1. It is an adventure! Be loose, be comfortable, bring snacks!
2. It will not always save you money. Lets see.... hotels in strange cities, all-nighters at the airport, airport cuisine at Top of the Mart prices.
3. Be flexible..... oh wait, that is what you promise you will be when LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com0Frankfurt, Germany50.1109221 8.682126700000026249.7851336 8.0366797000000254 50.436710600000005 9.3275737000000269tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-14127323027893077472015-08-29T18:18:00.000+01:002018-06-30T23:38:02.601+01:00Dilemma of Standby TravelHello All….. My fellow travelers are my sister, her hubby, my hubby and ME! (However, it is NEVER about ME)
As I write to you, we are sitting in the United Club lounge in Washington, DC and I am freezing. I digress….. We decided to leave on Friday at 2PM and so I frantically ran around getting all the last minute items done and then realized that we have never parked the car in LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-1941021937906142062015-04-07T02:21:00.000+01:002015-04-07T02:21:55.903+01:00A Bloggers DilemmaThere is a problem in my blogger world. I decided to move to England and regale you, the reader, with stories of my adventures. I was excited and expected that this new adventure would take on its own life. Life has a way of throwing curves that need to be accepted and rejoiced in because it lends itself to new possibilities. The new curve was a transfer to Germany and the new LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-12420399726773693152010-03-16T16:04:00.006+00:002010-06-05T14:09:17.318+01:00Waterford, and Cork; Day 2We were on our way! I must make a couple of notes here. Before we left the U.S. I called my sister for advise on whether or not we should rent a car. She said that if we did it should be an automatic because driving a stick with the gear on the wrong side and trying to remember what side of the road you are on is way to challenging. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for the LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-12889746679394031462010-03-14T23:23:00.009+00:002010-05-02T16:41:50.745+01:00Ireland, the dream and the reality.I have always wanted to travel to Ireland and this year, I finally made it! I brought my niece, Katie, for her dream adventure, St. Patrick's day in Ireland.Katie's trip began in Phoenix. She then flew to San Francisco to meet up with me. From there we flew to Frankfurt. When we arrived in Frankfurt we ran for the next flight to Dublin. Not going to happen! So, Edna and I headed down to the train station to take a walking tour of Frankfurt. What a fabulous way to get a sense of the city, hopefully get your bearings and see some wonderful sights. I am trying to judge it on its own merit and find I am comparing it to London; much like having a new boyfriend and comparing him to a lost love. It is as difficult to make the changes - new bank accounts, now rules, new methods of travel, but the changes were in English in London and made it easier to cope.LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-21733264056702990722009-10-25T20:07:00.003+00:002009-10-25T22:07:21.393+00:00Thank you Skype!!!What a modern day miracle... We have computers, recorders, cell phones, camcorders, and now we have You! You put me in touch with my family and friends, no matter how far away they are, or what time differences we may have. You give me visuals and sharing points. I have had coffee with my Mom, lunch with my sister, and wine with my friends. Paint yellow lines on the floor to make a square and keep all the smokers inside the area. I have found a place to live in Walldorf, a cute small town near the airport and close to Frankfurt. I have negotiated the train and can get to Frankfurt and back on my own and also to the airport and back. I am practicing my German, easier said than done, and have almost got all the banking and phone hiccups taken care of. As small as the world has become, the differences can still be huge; especially when you are Hungry, Angry (me? never), Lonely or Tired. Now that I think about it, that is probably what culture shock is mostly about. So, don't feel bad if it happens to you.... it is perfectly normal.LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-65323461455681539862009-08-28T16:24:00.001+01:002009-08-30T11:33:57.172+01:00Bag Lady Cometh!!I suppose that you are thinking…. “what happened to her? Did she drop off the face of the earth?” No, I am still here and trying to get organized. The process of moving is more complicated than the move itself. Questions that need to be addressed are: “aaaaagh! What was I thinking? “ and “when was the last time I was thinking?” Imagine for a moment you are me…. Here is how your day goes.LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-50994251808450404572009-08-11T06:12:00.002+01:002009-08-11T06:53:51.484+01:00STRESS doesn't just happen!I finally figured it out.... when someone says they are stressed, you can bet they have taken a stressful situation and piled something else on top of it. I think I have done that. In fact, I know I have. The airlines offered another chance for me to have more adventures. They offered me Frankfurt. I had one week to think about it. And I took it! Now I need to find living quarters in GermanyLondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-26817856194350464992009-06-22T22:32:00.002+01:002009-06-22T22:40:43.857+01:00The Grand Adventure is changing!Wow, now a new life is presenting itself. I have an opportunity to fly out of Frankfurt, Germany. Spreken ze deutch anyone? I have decided to leap into the ocean of change and ride the wave! I intend to have wine on the Rhine and walk in the Black Forest. I am going to learn the language and enjoy the culture. So, stay tuned and journey with me to parts unknown to me......LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-806610147225616172.post-6437637112064753272009-06-09T02:35:00.002+01:002009-06-09T03:09:40.117+01:00Terminal 5 is sinking!!!Heathrow's terminal 5 was built on top of a former sewage works on clay. Especially since it is about 2 hours on the train and you can come and go in the same day.My first view of the inside of the Cathedral was amazing. It is 6 AM and the rain is coming down in huge noisy drops that hit the attic window. The wind is blowing, and thunder is making itself heard. It is still dark outside and I am awake; not because of the noise, but because I set my alarm in the wrong time zone and forgot to turn it off. And so the day begins.New Year Resolution:LondonFlygirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03932205371923872297noreply@blogger.com0
